The scope of an Olympic Games is immense: 26 Olympic sports and 21 Paralympic sports across 29 venues in 27 days - the equivalent of 451 concurrent days of sports competition. Add 15,000 athletes, 4,500 Paralympic athletes, 9.2 million ticketed spectators, 4.7 billion TV viewers, 20,000 media and 70,000 volunteers and it’s clear that the challenge is a complex one, to say the least.
With 80 architects dealing with the same brief, and a nervous CABE and PDT to convince, Chris established the LOCOG Kit of Parts: a design integration manual that sort to bring order to the 90+ bits of kit across 80+ individual user group experiences. This gave our stakeholders confidence in our approach and a consistency of design across many disparate venue typologies.
